Sneak Peak: What Your Girl is Working On

From time to time we will post ‘Sneak Peaks’ into what your daughter is learning and/or achieving in Troop 3480. Troop 3480 is one of few multi-level troop in our area: we have Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, and Seniors, alhamdulillah.

DAISIES
Daisies are working on their Daisy Petals. This includes learning the Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout Law. Ask your Daisy daughter to recite the Girl Scout Promise to you:

On my honor, I will try:
To serve Allah and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

BROWNIES
Brownies are working on their Painting Legacy patch. Ask your Brownie to show you some of their work. This will be added to the Wonders of Water patches the Brownies completed in the summer.

JUNIORS
Juniors are working on their Get it Moving Journey. This journey offers Juniors a chance to earn three Girl Scout leadership awards: Energize, Investigate, and Innovate. The girls can choose to earn one, two, or all three. If they earn all three, they’ll see how the awards join together to create an energizing effect on their vest.

CADETTES
Cadettes have just begun working on their Digital Movie Maker badge. They’ll learn digital video basics from local professionals then film, edit and premier their own movie.

SENIORS
Seniors have decided to pursue the Collage Artist badge…

Adults: Do you have a skill or talent you’d like to share with our troop as they work on their badges? Contact Troop Co-Managers Sr. Alia alia [dot] kemet [at] gmail [dot] com or Sr. Kesha keshabdulm [at] gmail [dot] com.

See You at the Troop Blitz

What is a Troop Blitz, you ask? It is a day of multiple exciting activities and programs. Friday night troop meetings are just not enough time to squeeze in everything our girls and troop leaders want to accomplish.

Families are invited to attend the Pinning Ceremony, Investiture and Court of Arms. Our girls are working hard and love to share their accomplishments with parents, family and friends. Girls are to wear their uniforms for this portion of the day.

Only registered girls can attend the yoga session and SWAPS. Mothers can also participate for a fee of $5. Make sure your girls bring comfortable clothes (T-shirts / leggings / sweatpants) with them to stretch in. Our yoga instructor, Sr. Nazaahah from Baltimore, will give background on Yoga sprinkled with Islamic insights and show our girls some basic moves. Please contact Troop Trip Mom Sr. Amina at ummsulaymank [at] gmail [dot] com informing her that your girl will be attending the yoga session.

SWAPS are Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere. They are a Girl Scout tradition that allows girls to “meet new friends” and keep those memories. Your girls have been making swaps during some of their meetings. The more SWAPS the better. They are a fun way to meet other girls at Service Unit and National Girl Scout events.

What do swaps look like? A girl’s imagination is the only limit.

SWAPS from Rock The Mall June 2012

We hope to see you at Troop 3480’s first Blitz. Since this event is located at our meeting place, no need to worry about permission slips, but please make sure health forms are in for participating girls.

On Your Own: Girl Scout Day at the National Building Museum

Periodically there will be events that parents and girls can do together without their troop. We’ll call them “On Your Own” events. These events are NOT Troop 3480 group field trips. We’ll give you the information and parents and their girl scouts can choose to go on their own.

Join the Girl Scouts of the Nations Capital for Girl Scout Day at the National Building Museum on Saturday October 20, 2012. This day is geared towards Daisy, Brownie and Junior Scouts. Parents can register their girl(s) and allow them to work for a patch that day. Registration prior to Saturday is recommended. Register your daughter here. Find out more about the Journey Activities here.

EVENT RECAP:
Date: Saturday, October 20, 2012
Time: Pick a morning session (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM) or an afternoon session (1:30 – 4:30 PM)
