Are You Registered For Troop?

Troop 3480’s next meeting is Friday, 21 September, 6 -7PM at PGMA. If you have NOT registered your daughter for the 2012-2013 Girl Scout season, you do not want to miss this meeting. All girls must be registered to participate in Girl Scouts. There is a 20-minute grace period for meetings. Please arrive on time.

Missed Last Friday’s Parent Information Meeting? All parents who did not attend the information meeting last Friday must meet with a Troop 3480 representative prior to signing their daughter(s) up for troop. Representatives will be on hand beginning at 5:45PM to assist you.

WHY GIRL SCOUTS?

3 Keys to LeadershipThis is a great place for girls to develop skills, talents and friendships that will last a lifetime! The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is designed to challenge and prepare girls for their future. Girl Scouting gives girls three keys to leadership: Discover, Connect, Take Action. Girls learn about leadership, as they discover new talents, skills, and strengths, connect with others, and take action in their communities. They make friends and memories that will last throughout their lives.

PARENTS, JOIN THE FUN!

Adults who volunteer with Girl Scouts are committed to helping every girl discover their unique talents and abilities in a safe and nurturing environment. Learn more about how both you and your daughter can be part of Girl Scouts. Parents and other caring adult volunteers can contribute in a variety of ways, such as helping girls organize service projects, teaching girls about your interests and hobbies, chaperoning trips and camp-outs and much more. Training and support is free and easy to get involved in. Girls whose parents are actively involved in their daughter’s Girl Scout experience are more likely to earn leadership awards and to attend regional and national Girl Scout opportunities –- simply because they are better informed! Here are some ways you can get involved:

Become a Troop Leader: Troop 3480 is still looking for Brownie and Junior troop leaders. Troop leaders help plan the meetings & activities and work with the girls on achieving their goals.

Volunteer as a Troop Parent: We need 1-2 parents per level to become registered volunteers with GSNC. These parents will not be responsible for planning the meetings, but will assist troop leaders during the meeting and field trips. Troop Parents may be asked to make phone calls or help with administrative tasks or arts & crafts during meetings.

Step Forward and Be a Snack Parent: We are still looking for a parent to be responsible for organizing snacks for all of the levels.

Lend a Hand When You Can: Parents are always welcome to pitch in. If you want to help organize a field trip or have a skill to contribute please inform one of the troop leaders.

At this time we can only guarantee membership in Troop 3480 to the girls who participated in the summer session. All summer session Girl Scouts MUST re-register to continue. Daisies and Brownies who are new to troop 3480 will only be approved for membership based on availability. New girls who are Juniors and older will definitely be admitted. To expedite the process, please bring the printed registration form to the registration meeting this Friday. Download the registration form now: Girl_Scout_Membership.pdf.

  • Learn About Financial Obligations For The Year.
If a girl scout already has vest, book, etc. for her level, please disregard fees associated
with those items. The following are a list of fees to expect per girl scout (NOT per family):
    • $12 Registration (if you did NOT register for this summer)
    • $45 Dues: $25 to be paid by September 21st / $20 to be paid by
January 1. Dues will be utilized for badges, patches, ceremonies,
activities, field trips, supplies, crafts etc.

    • $30-$35 Uniform: includes vest, council patch, insignia troop numbers (mandatory for all Girl Scouts)
    • $17-$20 Girl Scout Girl Guide Book (mandatory for Juniors, Cadettes and Senior Girl Scouts)
    • $25 Snacks: Each girl scout takes turns providing snacks for the entire troop during troop meetings.

Additional funds will be requested for some optional field trips. We will do our best to provide parents with 4-6 weeks notice of any additional financial requests for these trips.

Need Financial Assistance? Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital doesn’t want finances to be a barrier to participation. Girls have the opportunity to request financial assistance for:

  • GSUSA National Membership Dues for girls and adults ($12)
  • Troop Dues (up to $25)
  • Girl Scout Shop Supplies (e.g. sash, recognitions, and books)

When financial assistance is needed, a B251 form must be completed by the leader / advisor or parent and submitted to the Field Director. Anyone interested in this option, should see Troop Manager, Sr. Alia.

InshaAllah, we are planning a wonderful year of scouting for your daughters. I look forward to sharing some of the creative and enriching ideas we have in store for your daughter this year at this Friday’s registration meeting.

JazakumAllah Khair and we hope to see you this Friday, September 14 at 6PM!
