Bridging Ceremony at Bladensburg Waterfront Park, Oct 11

Bridging is an important transition in a Girl Scout’s life. It’s a defining moment when a girl becomes aware of her achievements and is ready for new adventures and responsibilities. Alhamdulillah many of our girls will be bridging to the next level in Girl Scouts. Troop 3480’s Bridging Ceremony will be at Ropewalk Pavilion, a brown covered area with picnic tables in the middle of Bladensburg Waterfront Park. Download the Bridging Ceremony Parental Permission Activity Form.

Sis. Ieasha Prime will give the girls insight on developing their reflection skills: analyzing their experiences, building on acquired knowledge and making connections across all the parts of their lives. Next, bridging girls will walk across a bridge at Bladensburg Waterfront Park and receive their Girl Scout pin and bridging award. There will be an outdoor group activity for all girls and their families so come prepared to be an active part of the ceremony. Lastly, our troop will have a salad bar, lemonade and water to be served at the end of the ceremony.

WHAT TO WEAR: All girls should be in uniform and wear tennis shoes or boots (the grass may be wet). Bridging girls should also bring their new vest/smock.

PARENTS: We need your help providing plates, cutlery, napkins, cups, beverages and garbage bags. Please meet with Sis. Marnice during our first troop meeting on October 10 to coordinate your donations and let us know what you intend to bring so we can have a a beautiful, balanced, healthy spread on that blessed day.

bridgingAwards2014-2BRIDGING AWARDS
In order for girls to receive their bridging award they must write two letters:

  1. In the first letter, bridging Girl Scouts should welcome girls who are new to Troop 3480 and share what their troop level did last year.
  2. In the second letter, bridging Girl Scouts should ask girls in their new level what to expect this upcoming year.

For example, Jamila Doe was a Brownie last year and is bridging to Juniors. She must write a letter describing all the fun and challenging things she did as a Brownie; this letter will be given to a Brownie who just joined Troop 3480. Jamila should also write a second letter to a Junior asking what to expect from the Junior troop this year. There is no need to write to a specific Girl Scout; in this example Jamila would write “Dear Brownie” and “Dear Junior” as her salutation.

Both letters must be submitted to troop leaders/advisors at the first troop meeting on October 10, in order for girls to receive their bridging award.

Join Troop 3480 management and leaders for a parent meeting on Friday, September 12, 6:30PM at PGMA inshaAllah. During the parent meeting we will be accepting registrations for new Girl Scouts (with the exception of Brownies, grades 2 and 3), welcome back last years parents, go over troop procedures and introduce our current troop leaders.

Note: This will be our only parent meeting before troop meetings begin, however we may accept new registrations on a case by case basis through October. New registrations will not be accepted after November 1.

Only parents and/or legal guardians may register girls for Girl Scouts. Health forms must be on file prior to our first troop meeting.

Thank you all for your patience.

Hope you all had a restful summer and are ready for an exciting Girl Scout year.
