Are You Registered For Troop?

Troop 3480’s next meeting is Friday, 21 September, 6 -7PM at PGMA. If you have NOT registered your daughter for the 2012-2013 Girl Scout season, you do not want to miss this meeting. All girls must be registered to participate in Girl Scouts. There is a 20-minute grace period for meetings. Please arrive on time.

Missed Last Friday’s Parent Information Meeting? All parents who did not attend the information meeting last Friday must meet with a Troop 3480 representative prior to signing their daughter(s) up for troop. Representatives will be on hand beginning at 5:45PM to assist you.

WHY GIRL SCOUTS?

3 Keys to LeadershipThis is a great place for girls to develop skills, talents and friendships that will last a lifetime! The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is designed to challenge and prepare girls for their future. Girl Scouting gives girls three keys to leadership: Discover, Connect, Take Action. Girls learn about leadership, as they discover new talents, skills, and strengths, connect with others, and take action in their communities. They make friends and memories that will last throughout their lives.

PARENTS, JOIN THE FUN!

Adults who volunteer with Girl Scouts are committed to helping every girl discover their unique talents and abilities in a safe and nurturing environment. Learn more about how both you and your daughter can be part of Girl Scouts. Parents and other caring adult volunteers can contribute in a variety of ways, such as helping girls organize service projects, teaching girls about your interests and hobbies, chaperoning trips and camp-outs and much more. Training and support is free and easy to get involved in. Girls whose parents are actively involved in their daughter’s Girl Scout experience are more likely to earn leadership awards and to attend regional and national Girl Scout opportunities –- simply because they are better informed! Here are some ways you can get involved:

Become a Troop Leader: Troop 3480 is still looking for Brownie and Junior troop leaders. Troop leaders help plan the meetings & activities and work with the girls on achieving their goals.

Volunteer as a Troop Parent: We need 1-2 parents per level to become registered volunteers with GSNC. These parents will not be responsible for planning the meetings, but will assist troop leaders during the meeting and field trips. Troop Parents may be asked to make phone calls or help with administrative tasks or arts & crafts during meetings.

Step Forward and Be a Snack Parent: We are still looking for a parent to be responsible for organizing snacks for all of the levels.

Lend a Hand When You Can: Parents are always welcome to pitch in. If you want to help organize a field trip or have a skill to contribute please inform one of the troop leaders.

Guide Girls to Something Good!

PGMA Girl Scout Troop 3480 is looking for troop leaders. We invite our sisters in Islam who are interested in the opportunity to mentor Muslim girls to join our group of 10 dedicated troop leaders.

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer. [Muslim].

Who Can Be a Girl Scout Troop Leader?

You don’t have to have a daughter or be a mother at all. You don’t need prior experience in teaching or instructing children. You do need to be tenacious, caring and dedicated to imparting the beauty of Islamic life to girls in your community. You do need to have the desire to help girls become leaders. You do need to aspire to guide girls to something good.

Every girl has the ability to lead, but only one girl in five believes she can. A lack of role models, unhealthy images of beauty, peer pressure to not stand out, and a mean-girl culture are just some of the obstacles that stand between girls and their full potential. These same societal pressures impact Muslim girls.

We know that with strong Muslim women role models and support, girls are one step closer to achievement. Your time as a troop leader will provide girls the free and safe environment they need to pursue their interests, causes, and leadership roles, all in an Islamic setting. With your support girls will stand up, stand out, and stand tall. Oh yeah, and have a lot of fun too!

Become a Girl Scout Troop Leader and guide girls toward building their faith, courage, confidence and character! InshaAllah, these girls will be empowered to make the world a better place. If this mission resonates with you, please contact Troop Manager Alia at alia [dot] kemet [at] gmail [dot] com.

PGMA Girl Scout Troop 3480 currently consists of 47 girls and 10 troop leaders who volunteer their time, energy and resources. Due to the high demand for scouting in our community, there is a waiting list for girls in kindergarten through third grade. With additional leaders, the troop will be able to accept more girls who are interested in scouting, inshaAllah!

A SPECIAL NOTE TO PARENTS:
It is very important that you bring your daughter to the meetings on time. We meet on Fridays from 6 – 7:30pm. Your daughter may be very disappointed if she misses parts of her meeting. We urge you to do your best to help us teach our girls the importance of time management, efficiency and effectiveness! JazakumAllah Khair.

PGMA Troop 3480 Has Launched With 40 Girls!

Alhumdullilah, what a turn out! The troop leaders of PGMA Girl Scout Troop 3480 could not have been more pleased with the excellent attendance at the inaugural meeting held last Friday, 18 May. We now have 40 registered girl scouts in our troop and we are beginning to plan summer and fall activities, Insha-Allah.

We are still accepting registration for girls who are currently in the 4th grade and up. Girls in these grades — Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors — are invited to register at the May 25th meeting. The meeting starts at 6:00 pm, so girls who still need to register should arrive 15 minutes early. WE WILL BE STARTING ON TIME, Insha-Allah.

Due to the high interest in girl scouting within our community and our desire to be in compliance with the girl-to-adult volunteer ratio, we are no longer accepting registration for Daisy and Brownie scouts until September. If your daughter is in the 2nd or 3rd grade, please contact the troop manager directly at alia [dot] kemet [at] gmail [dot] com to be placed on the waiting list.

A special note to parents: Thank you all for bringing your daughters to the inaugural meeting. Your enthusiasm and dedication to the girls is contagious and we are looking forward to harnessing that energy and involving many of you in the Girl Scout family!

Don’t forget to check out the Donate page as there are many items that your daughter’s troop is in need of. Also, get your girls in the proper uniform. We would like all girls to be looking sharp in compliance with the uniform policy on or before the start of June.

Thanks for all of your support. Together, with Allah’s (swt) guidance we will work to build girls of faith, courage, confidence and character and who make the world a better place.
