Troop Community Service Project & Silver Trefoil Hours Alert with CAIR

OCTOBER TROOP COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner This month our troop is working with our Girl Scout Service Unit to collect at least 800 full-sized bottles of 2-in-1 combined shampoo and conditioner as a part of the annual Purse Drive sponsored by My Girlfriend’s House in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Each donated purse is stuffed with dental care, feminine care, nail care and hair care products. Purses are then dispersed to 20-25 area shelters, group homes and foster care agencies throughout the DC, VA and MD regions.

Our troop goal is for every girl scout to donate four (4) full-size bottles of 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner. Girls who donate five (5) bottles will earn one service hour for Silver Trefoil or county-required community service.

Let’s make this a race to do good deeds! Will the Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors or Ambassadors donate the most bottles? Remember to reach out to family, friends and schoolmates to help make a difference in the lives of homeless women and girls in our area. Girls should bring their 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner donations to the troop meetings on October 9 and 23 inshaAllah.

SILVER TREFOIL HOURS ALERT

CAIR is looking for volunteers for their 21st Anniversary Banquet on Saturday, October 17, 2015. The event will take place at the Marriott Crystal Gateway Hotel (1700 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington VA 22202), where the program will take place from 5:30 – 10PM. Volunteers are needed during the hours of 3:30 – 10:30PM for set-up, registration, ushering, donation collection, clean-up, event photographer. (There are also some paid positions for babysitters the night of the event.) This year, there will be two online orientation webinars before the event to walk through the details; volunteers must plan to attend one. Volunteers get free entry to the banquet, an awesome meal, and will likely be able to see some of the program as well. Cadette Corner: Welcome & Bridging Requirements

Asalaamu alaikum & welcome back Cadettes!

Ready for a new and exciting year? Our troop blog, PGMAGirlScouts.org, is how and where Cadettes will be updated about their events. All trips, meeting updates and Cadette-centered info will always be posted here. We have 30 girls and 60 parents, so the blog is the only place to find Cadette info.

FOR THE FIRST MEETING
ALL Cadettes:

should have an email address and a contact number (parent or home) to share with the group
should be ready to participate

This year Cadettes will be outside learning how to be good leaders and good followers, working in groups to achieve goals, as well as working on ways to raise their own money for council and group events. Out of this group we pray to have a couple of Silver Awards done by February of 2016 so that they can be included in the On Our Honor book and program. I have also signed up the Cadettes for Sudden Service events. Only girls who wear their uniforms to meetings will be able to participate.

Girls are completely responsible for how their year looks and turns out. Meetings are for presentations and questions, and sometimes we learn a little. This year girls will have to depend on each other to get things done. The girls will deal with accomplishments and failures; being a leader is learning how to bounce back and keep moving.

There will always be girls who will not participate in things and that is totally a conscious decision. Your Cadette experience is what you make of it, so make sure you are making your Girl Scout year worthwhile. Come ready to listen, learn, share, and have a great scouting year!

CADETTES BRIDGING TO SENIORS: bridge_to_senior

To earn your Bridge to Girl Scout Senior award there are two requirements:

Looking back: Reflect on your Cadette accomplishments in the past one, two, or three years you were a Cadette. What you did correct, what didn’t go too well?
Looking forward:Create a mixed media video (pictures, voice over, interview) as a group for your NEW Senior Sisters highlighting your work as Cadettes and WHAT you hope to accomplish as Seniors.

You have a choice of uploading it to YouTube or burning it on a CD for your fellow Girl Scouts to view. Due before Investiture in December.

Time to get Back to Troop!

The first meeting of the 2015-2016 scouting year will be Friday, October 9, 2013, 6 – 7:30PM, inshaAllah.

Parents: Join troop management for a parent meeting, 6:30 – 7:15PM. This parent meeting is for those parents whose girls are already registered with Troop 3480, as well as parents of girls new to the troop and interested in joining the troop.

InshaAllah parents will :

Meet troop management
Go over troop guidelines, including the do’s and don’t’s that will make your girl’s scouting year go smoothly
Sign up to volunteer
Learn about Girl Scout uniform requirements and where to buy it all
Listen to other parents share their girl’s experiences with the troop
Ask questions. Things can get hectic during meeting times. We have about 80 girls and 160 parents, other siblings in and around the building. Come with your questions ready.
