So Fresh, So Clean: Get Your Girl Ready to Bridge and Prepared for 2013-14 Scouting Year

The Mobile Girl Scout Shop will be in Bowie, MD on June 1, 2013 at St. Edwards the Confessor Catholic Church located at 1940 Mitchellville Road, from 11am to 1pm. Update your uniforms before Troop 3480’s End of Year program and before the 2013-2014 scouting begins in September.

Girl Scouts in America and around the world are recognized by their uniforms. Help make sure your girl is wearing her uniform correctly, uniting her with the sisterhood of Girl Scouts.

The required uniform for Troop 3480 includes the following:

  • insignia tab and pins (appropriate for level)
  • white shirt
  • khaki pants / skirt or khaki abaya
  • white scarf
  • active footwear

There are also official tunics or vest for the girls based on their level on which girls can proudly display their earned badges and participation patches. Daisies wear blue tunics; Brownies vests are brown; Juniors sport the green vests; and Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors are all decked out in tan vests.

Along with the vests, parents should purchase these essential items:

  • American flag patch
  • Council Identification patch for Girl Scout of the Nations Capital
  • Troop Numerals 3480
  • Insignia Tab

Use this visual guide to learn where to place all pins, patches and badges: http://www.girlscouts.org/program/basics/for_volunteers/where_to_place/

All items can be purchased online at the official Girl Scout Shop or in person at the GS Shop of the Nations Capital located at 4301 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington DC, 20008.

Financial Literacy Workshop for Cadettes, Seniors & Ambassadors on May 18 at PGMA

girlsFinancialFuture

A fundamental component of a successful adult life is financial literacy — a practical skill that girls develop in Girl Scouts that will serve them for the rest of their lives. Financial literacy can help girls set financial goals and gain the confidence they need to ultimately take control of their own financial future. By developing money management skills early in life, girls learn how to increase their income, become responsible consumers, create a budget, build and manage credit, and save and invest for whatever’s next. In this financial literacy workshop, girls will cover budgeting, goal setting, career planning, planning for large purchases (such as a home, a car, vacations), giving back, investing, and entrepreneurship.

Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassador Girl Scouts are invited to attend this Financial Literacy workshop on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 3:30PM – 6PM at PGMA. The cost for Troop 3480 girls is $7. Other girl scouts are welcome to attend for $15. Limited spaces are available.

The workshop facilitator, Vanessa Bright, is founder of Financial Futures Now, an organization dedicated to educating America’s youth on the basic principles of financial literacy and providing them with the skills to become financially free and fiscally responsible adults.
