Reminder: Troop Meeting Tomorrow, Mar 10

The next regularly scheduled troop meeting will be this Friday, March 10, 2017, 6:15 – 7:45PM, inshaAllah. Please be timely. Arrivals after 6:45PM are disruptive to troop meetings and strongly discouraged.

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will be working on their WOW Action Project and beginning the Philanthropist badge.
  • Please bring permission form and $14 payment for the Home Scientist and Inventor badges workshop on March 18, at the Chesapeake Children’s Museum.
  • Eight (8) tickets for the Darnell Chance museum patch activities have been reserved. The $20 payment is due at this Friday’s troop meeting to hold your space.

JUNIORS

  • Juniors will review the work of each team for their Get Moving! Take Action project.
    • Vendor Selection team: work with Sis. Amina (PGMA Facility Director) to find a company that will pick up recycling from PGMA and how much the company will charge. (Asima, Aya)
    • Bin Selection team: find and price at least three types of recycling bins to place inside PGMA. (Amina, Nusaibah, Raqeebah)
    • Site Selection team: use a building floor plan of PGMA to determine the number of bins required and the best locations to place the recycling bins. (Badriya, Fatima, Hannan, Hidaya, Indya. Maryam G., Maryam M., Safiyyah, Sajayah, Zina)
    • Outreach & Education team: create drafts of posters to publicize PGMA’s new recycling program. (Aya, Deena, Farah, Fatima, Hannan, Laila, Maryam M., Shahed, Sajayah, Suundus, Tasneem)

  • The Girl Scout Year will be coming to an end soon. Pay your Girl Scout’s troop dues: $45 for Daisies, $60 for all other levels. If needed, dues can be paid in installments. Dues pay for badges and pins, help supplement some activities/trips, and also help support the troop web site, and other troop expenses. (Parents pay for fun patches.)

Reminder: Girl Scout Day at the Newseum, THIS SATURDAY, Mar 4

newseumLogoGirl Scout Day at the Newseum is this Saturday, March 4, 2017, inshaAllah. Drop off is at 9AM; Pick up is 2PM. PGMA Girl Scouts should wear their full uniform & hijab and bring lunch money. Parents and tagalongs are welcome to attend but must buy their tickets online or at the door.

  • Show off your best singing voice with our karaoke Girl Scouts Sing! Sing songs by famous female artists, as well as former Girl Scouts such as Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey and Sheryl Crow.
  • Join a Women Who Rock tour to discover how women have made gains – and a name – by speaking out through music and marches in the world of politics and social movements.
  • Take a break and get active in our Funspot game room! Play mega-sized games of Connect Four and Jenga. Challenge your friends in a game of bean bag toss!
  • Discover the various ways that young women have used the five freedoms of the First Amendment to fight for their beliefs in our self-guided Girl Power Scavenger Hunt.
  • Bring your camera and capture a selfie with a life-sized cutout of Nellie Bly, a pioneer for women in journalism, in our Photo Op.

Annual Favorites:

  • Show what you know about the Girl Scouts, women’s history and current events in the Newseum’s popular NewsMania game show.
  • Race across a giant game board using historic front pages in Front Page Frenzy game that uses historic front pages featuring accomplishments of famous women.
  • Learn how women’s suffrage activists used their First Amendment rights to bring attention to their cause in Votes for Women program.
  • In the Express Yourself station, decorate a tote bag, picture frame or patch button.
  • Pack your imagination and head off on a Nellie Bly Global Scavenger Hunt in the Newseum’s exhibits. Travel through time to learn about the different ways of communicating, news around the world and the life of journalist Elizabeth Cochrane, aka Nellie Bly. Download the hunt and print it in advance.

REMINDER: Fitness Night at Diyanet Center of America, THIS FRIDAY, Mar 3

iheartswimmingdolphinfunAll PGMA Girl Scouts are invited to participate in a night of fitness and fun at the Diyanet Center of America this Friday night, March 3, 2017, 7 – 10PM.

Several guidelines must be followed for safety and modesty:

  • This event if for Girl Scouts and female parents/guardians only. No tagalongs, boys of any age, toddlers or small children.
  • Brownies and Daisy’s must be accompanied by a female parent/guardian.
  • Swimming dress code must be followed. No midriff showing. Cover up must come to the knees. Swimming material is required. (No cotton, sweats, or jeans in the pool.)
  • Permission forms are required. Parent/Guardians must bring permission forms and sign in their Girl Scouts. Do not drop off your child and leave without signing them in.
