Register Now for Girl Scout Engineering Saturday, Oct 11

gses-patch-2012Girl Scout Engineering Saturday (GSES) is a program for local Girl Scout troops in Maryland and the Washington metropolitan area. Cadettes and Seniors (grades 6-10) engage in fun hands-on activities and earn the Women in Engineering Girl Scout Engineering Saturday patch. This program is offered twice a year in February and October. There is a $10 registration fee for each participant to cover lunch and the cost of patches.

Goals of GSES

  • To expose Girl Scout Troops to engineering related activities
  • To introduce young women to professional career options in engineering or science
  • To provide university students with the chance to develop and implement engineering related activities, and to enhance their communication and leadership skills

Please note that because of high program interest only a limited number of participants are able to be accommodated. You will be notified upon acceptance to the program and provided additional program details regarding payment and permission forms as well as directions to campus and the program schedule.

Registration for GSES is on a first come, first serve basis. Please submit the Online Registration Form as soon as possible to secure your space in this program. A notice will be posted on the website when all spaces are filled.

On Your Own: 2014 Mitre Girl Scout and Boy Scout Engineering Day, Apr. 5

mitreCorpMITRE is hosting its second Boy Scout and Girl Scout Scout Engineering Day.  Classes are open to registered Girl Scout Cadettes (at least 11 years old), Seniors, and Ambassadors.  Everyone will receive an event patch and girls will receive a Certificate of Participation.  Classes include some of the following: Aviation, Chemistry, Composite Materials, Drafting, Electronics, Energy, Engineering, Model Design & Building, Nuclear Science, Space Exploration.

Some of the classes at the event are only offered in the morning, some in both the morning and afternoon, and some classes are all day classes. You can complete one or two classes based on the classes you select.  Written outlines will be provided prior to the event of each module for Girls to be able to set expectations.

Registration is open to Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in Washington DC metro area. Registration is on a first come first serve basis and classes have a limited number of seats. Registration opens to the public March 7, 2014 at 7PM: Register here. Because the MITRE campus is a secure facility, registration is not available to foreign nationals due to building security. On Your Own: STEMosphere at George Washington University, Mar. 8

sharefarelogoOn Saturday March 8, George Washington University is hosting a great, free event called STEMosphere. It is an expo of fun, hands-on, interactive STEM-inspired activities for children PreK-12th grade. Exhibitors include: Smithsonian Science Education Center, Discovery Education, NASA, and more! Girl Scouts of All Ages and their leaders or adult chaperones are welcome to come to the Smith Center at George Washington University Foggy Bottom Campus at 600 22nd St NW, Washington DC. Girl Scouts must be accompanied by adult chaperones and meet volunteer essentials safety ratios. Concession snacks will be available for sale at the Smith Center.
