Who Loves to Camp? Girls & Parents Camping Meeting, Jan. 25

W_C2Asalaamu Alaikum,

From the start of Troop 3480 our girls have expressed their desire go camping. Our first camping trip will be with our Girl Scout Service Unit this April, inshaAllah. Camping season is coming soon, so let’s get ready!

Due to the number of girls we have and their various levels of outdoor experience, we are are requiring both girls and parents attend a series of camping meetings. Camping meetings will give girls and parents instruction on how Girl Scouts camp, the equipment needed, types of camping and other tips. In addition, parents (both fathers and mothers) who want to obtain Cookout & Campout Certification will also need to attend so that they complete all the required registration.

Our first camping meeting for both girls and parents will be on January 25, 2014, 1 – 3PM at PGMA with Sis. Kesha and Bro. Ishaq.

Girls should bring an inexpensive reusable bag to be used to make a sit-upon — one of many Girl Scout camping traditions.

5BoxesOfCookiesAsalaamu Alaikum

Initial Cookie Orders Due Jan. 16
All initial cookie order counts are due January 16, by 10pm via email only to:

zakiya [dot] zaid [at] gmail [dot] com

Please make sure to share this with girls whose parents do not follow the blog. Orders that are not emailed will be not be submitted with the initial cookie order.

Emails should follow this format:

Jamila Doe, Daisy

Samoas: 5 boxes

Thin Mints: 10 boxes

Trefoils: 3 boxes

Do-si-dos: 4 boxes

Tagalongs: 1 box

Savannah Smiles: 7 boxes

If you have more than one girl selling cookies, list each girl’s cookie orders separately. Cookie Goals are per girl, not per family.

Cookie Transport
Parents are needed to volunteer for cookie pick up for the Troop on February 10. The more parents we have to transport cookies the quicker it will be. Please see Sis. Zakiya at the Friday meeting for more info.

Cookie Incentives
Each girl should aim to sell a minimum of 75 boxes of cookies. These can be sold individually or through cookie booths. Selling at cookie booths is an easy way for your girl to increase her cookie sales totals. Selling 75 boxes of cookies will qualify your daughter for special prizes at the Cookie Party after the 2013-14 Cookie Season ends. Girls who do not sell 75 or more boxes will also be able to attend.

Asalaamu Alaikum

This Friday, January 3, 2014, will be our Troop’s Investiture and Rededication ceremony.

Investiture welcomes new members, girls or adults, into the Girl Scout family for the first time. Girls receive their Girl Scout, Girl Scout Brownie, or Girl Scout Daisy pin at this time. The Rededication is an opportunity for girls and adults to renew their commitment to the Girl Scout Promise and Law, including girl scouts who have recently transferred to Troop 3480 from other troops.

Each level’s program will take place in their individual room. Times of each levels ceremony will be posted at sign-in. We are asking parents to bring a dish for this special occasion.

Girls should be on time and in full uniform. Remember: the Uniform Stars program is an on-going effort.

Otherwise girls can wear an overgarment of any color over which they can fit their uniform vest. No pants or tennis shoes, please. Juniors should also remember to bring a dish that they prepared themselves. Here is our list of foods so far.
