Juniors Bridging to Cadettes? Earn Your Bridge to Cadette Award

bridge_to_cadetteThere are two components to earn a Girl Scout Bridging Award. In step one girls “Pass It On” by sharing their talents and skills by teaching younger Girl Scouts something they learned to do. Step two asks girls to “Look Ahead” by finding out what Girl Scouts do in the next level.

Juniors who are bridging to Cadettes have already had an opportunity to “Look Ahead” when they took a peek at the videos Cadettes created during one of their journeys last Girl Scout year. To complete the “Pass It On” portion, girls must download and print a Pass It On bookmark and then follow the steps to connect with one or more Brownies to share their experiences as Junior Girl Scouts. Contact Sis. Kori with questions and to turn in the completed Pass It On bookmark. When bridging Juniors have completed the Pass It On bookmark, they will have earned their first badge as a Girl Scout Cadette!

Cadette Corner: Welcome & Bridging Requirements

Asalaamu alaikum & welcome back Cadettes!

what_cadettes_do

Ready for a new and exciting year? Our troop blog, PGMAGirlScouts.org, is how and where Cadettes will be updated about their events. All trips, meeting updates and Cadette-centered info will always be posted here. We have 30 girls and 60 parents, so the blog is the only place to find Cadette info.

FOR THE FIRST MEETING
ALL Cadettes:

  1. should have an email address and a contact number (parent or home) to share with the group
  2. should be ready to participate

This year Cadettes will be outside learning how to be good leaders and good followers, working in groups to achieve goals, as well as working on ways to raise their own money for council and group events. Out of this group we pray to have a couple of Silver Awards done by February of 2016 so that they can be included in the On Our Honor book and program. I have also signed up the Cadettes for Sudden Service events. Only girls who wear their uniforms to meetings will be able to participate.

Girls are completely responsible for how their year looks and turns out. Meetings are for presentations and questions, and sometimes we learn a little. This year girls will have to depend on each other to get things done. The girls will deal with accomplishments and failures; being a leader is learning how to bounce back and keep moving.

There will always be girls who will not participate in things and that is totally a conscious decision. Your Cadette experience is what you make of it, so make sure you are making your Girl Scout year worthwhile. Come ready to listen, learn, share, and have a great scouting year!

CADETTES BRIDGING TO SENIORS:bridge_to_senior

To earn your Bridge to Girl Scout Senior award there are two requirements:

    1. Looking back: Reflect on your Cadette accomplishments in the past one, two, or three years you were a Cadette. What you did correct, what didn’t go too well?
    2. Looking forward:Create a mixed media video (pictures, voice over, interview) as a group for your NEW Senior Sisters highlighting your work as Cadettes and WHAT you hope to accomplish as Seniors.

You have a choice of uploading it to YouTube or burning it on a CD for your fellow Girl Scouts to view. Due before Investiture in December.

brooksideBridgeTroop 3480’s Bridging Ceremony will be on Sunday September 27, 2015 at 10:30AM inshaAllah at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton Regional Park.

Once at Brookside Gardens, meet at the Bridge to Understanding in the Gude Garden area near the labyrinth. After the ceremony girls and their families are welcome to bring a lunch, enjoy the playground, and explore the butterfly exhibit and gardens.

Parking is available in several areas, but the most convenient parking lots are next to the Shorefield Picnic & Playground Area and the Brookside Gardens Conservatory. Street parking is also available on Heurich Road. Download the park map and familiarize yourself with the Brookside Gardens Etiquette.

Directions from the Shorefield Area
2000 Shorefield Road

Start from location 1 on the park map. Park on the left near the playground. The path to Brookside Gardens starts next to the playground on the left of the restroom sign. Take the left path at the park map sign. Walk 5 minutes. At the end of the path, open the gate on the left and you will see the bridge. The Shorefield parking area is more convenient for lunch and the playground after the ceremony.
