Saturday Blitz, Dec 5

Asalaamu Alaikum

At times the hour and a half troop meetings every other week are just not enough to achieve the girls’ goals. Occasionally it is productive to meet outside of troop meetings for an extended period of time in order to accomplish a project, so some troops will be meeting on Saturday, December 5, 2015, 2 – 6PM inshaAllah.

An early dinner will be served. (Please make sure dues have been paid because this is where the money comes from.) Girls should bring their mess kits (i.e., a container and a cup).

BROWNIES

For the World of Girls action project, the Brownies will be making sock puppets to donate to doctor’s offices waiting rooms for young patients to enjoy.  All Brownies are welcome to attend, however, girls who attended the Chesapeake Museum World of Girls Journey workshop will need to come in order to complete their take action project, the final requirement of their journey.  We will have some crafts to decorate, but we need donations such as, glue guns, yarn, felt, cotton, google eyes or anything they can use. Let us know what you can bring.  Also, please let your Brownie practice sewing on buttons with a needle and thread or sewing straight lines.

Watch this video or read this how-to with your Brownie to get her creative juices bubbling.

Registered parent volunteers are needed.  Please let us know if you can attend: hudahashim [at] yahoo [dot] com

Supplies to bring to make three puppets:

  1. Two pairs of new long socks (small to medium size)
  2. any craft items that your daughter would like to decorate her puppet with

CADETTES

Cadettes will be working on their aMaze Journey. Participating girls will need to bring their journey books, scissors, old magazines and paper to write with.

Girls who attended the Program Aide training can work on LiA award proposals. They will choose a Brownie Journey and develop a program for three meetings.

Chemistry in the Kitchen, Feb 27

kitchenChemistryIn this exciting program, girls will learn how cooking and baking are based on some of the most basic ideas of science. Girls will determine the differences in chemical and physical reactions as they change sugar to delicious caramel candy or even make a soda explosion! Older girls will experiment with chromatography and find out about the make-up of some of their favorite candy, while younger girls will learn about density as they create their own liquid totem. Each girl will leave this event with a book full of fun chemistry experiments to do both in the kitchen and all around the house with friends or family members and a fun patch.

Because this is a pre-paid, out of council event, registration is first-come first-served and there are no refunds.

Cadette Corner: Meeting Update

Cadettes
Asalaamu Alaikum,

Sis Kieta did a great presentation on proposals at the last meeting. See the info below for future reference or to catch up:

Silver Award Project Proposal Form – Example 2

Silver Award Project Proposal Form – Example 1

Take Action Project Defined

For the next meeting Cadettes must work in their grade groups (6th, 7th or 8th graders) to:

  1. Find out what is outstanding for your journey and make a plan to complete it. Give yourself an attainable deadline and reach out for help.
  2. Completed group answers to the questions provided during the session. Project: Growing vegetables to give harvest to local soup kitchen or food pantry.
  3. Information is emailed by one person in your group. Use the Cadette roster to work in your groups before the next meeting.

Remember that journey awards will not be given out this year without a proposal approval. Put your energy into completing it and turning it in for approval. Once the group work is done, take it to the next level. Girls who need to complete Take Action projects should bounce their ideas off of their group members so that they can turn their proposals in and get to work! Work smarter, not harder.

Ma salaama

Sis. Kesha
