Cadette Corner

Asalaamu Alaikum

Cadettes have been busy, alhumdulilllah.

I need four Cadettes to bring in four thank you notes for the speakers we have had and will have, please and thank you.

BADGE UPDATES:
Babysitter badge

  • Girls who attended the Council training have to turn in their Mommy and Me schedules, and then actually babysit a child to earn on the patch. (honor system)
  • Girls who did not do the Council training will have to bring in a receipt from the babysitting certification classes posted here. You will also have to do the Mommy and Me schedule.
  • Deadline for this badge: March 11, 2016

Public Speaker
Girls who attended last weeks meeting with our speaker, Sis. Raheemah Abdul-Alim Karim, have to prepare a speech. That speech can be a historical speech (e.g. I have a Dream by Martin Luther King Jr, Prophet’s Last Speech) or one you have written yourself. There is a three-minute time limit. All topics must be emailed prior to presenting them. These are due March 11, 2016.

On-Your-Own badges
Girls may do badges on their own but Girl Scouts is about teamwork which allows you all to make new friends and teaches you how to work in groups and manage conflict. If you choose to do a badge on our own you must:

  • inform Sis Kesha prior to doing the badge to make sure you hit all learning points
  • present that badge to your troop with a detailed presentation that includes visuals and be ready for a question and answer session.

AMAZE JOURNEY

  • Peace Maker box/vision board due by Feb 26, 2016
  • Finish the book and start thinking about the Take Action Project. There are plenty of girls who have yet to finish, so reach out to them to create a group to get it done.

SILVER AWARD
Your proposal is due February 12, via email, before the troop meeting. We need to get you all approved on the link that was sent out last week. If you don’t have a plan then it’s back to the drawing board. If you need help or want to find another topic we can talk on February 12 inshaAllah.

KUDOS:
We want to congratulate Nabila A. for completing her Program Aide pin. This is a great accomplishment considering she is the first Cadette from our troop to complete it the past three years. InshaAllah Nabila is on her way towards earning her Silver Award.

Keep at it, ladies. Great job.

Cadette Corner: Badge Work Updates

Cadettes
Asalaamu Aliakum

Great work at the last meeting ladies. I was overjoyed by the participation.

If you missed the star gazing or want more (since the weather was overcast) please check out the Rock Creek Park planetarium during the break.

Refer back to the original Night Owl blog post so that you are working on what is due at the next troop meeting.

Girls working on the aMaze journey should look at the Amaze Journey & Silver Award blog post to find out what is also due at the next troop meeting.

Please add to the badge tracker Excel spreadsheet by January 15, so that we can finish mapping out the rest of the scouting year.

Again good work ladies. Let’s keep it up!

Cadette Corner: Badge Selection, aMaze Journey & Silver Award Follow-up

Cadettes
Asalaamu Alaikum Ladies,

Great start identifying the badges that you are interested in. As we discussed in the last troop meeting, the excel document for badges has been shared with the group. Please update it with your speaker information (teachers / former teachers / people you know / parents / etc.).

We will revisit the badge assignment at the first troop meeting in January 2016 inshaAllah. That means there is still time for all girls to work on providing information for badges they are interested in.

aMaze Journey participants:

  1. Read pages 1-30; pick out the 3 interactions for the Interact portion of the badge
  2. Read about the Peacemaker portion of your badge. You will turn in your peacemaker box / vision board on the January 8, 2016 inshaAllah.

Silver Award participants:

  1. Good Start! Share your documents and make sure everyone in the group follows through. Remember that you have an hour requirement of 50 hours for every group member for the Silver Award. Download the Silver Award Guidelines, the Silver Award Time Log and follow the steps.
  2. Set up your meetings after the group members have done what they were assigned to do.
  3. Check back with me by January 8, 2016
