Daisy Day at Color Me Mine

colorMeMinePatchTroop 3480 Daisy Scouts will be introduced to ceramic painting at Color Me Mine in Silver Spring. This activity includes a tour of Color Me Mine’s kiln room and a Color Me Mine fun patch for each girl scout.

Daisy Girl Scouts will:

  • learn the basics of ceramic painting including how to apply the underglaze.
  • learn how to use common design materials like stamps, stencils and tape.
  • choose a piece of pottery to paint – they’ll pick one from a selection of 3 items.

Download the Daisy Day Color Me Mine Permission Form. All forms must be turned in by December 28, 2012. The $8 fee for this program is due no later than January 11, 2013.

It’s Here! It’s Here! Cookie Season is Here!

Cookie season for the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital area officially starts December 21, 2012 and ends March 24, 2013. We will be offering all eight delicious varieties of Girl Scout Cookies:

  • Thin Mints,
  • Samoas,
  • Trefoils,
  • Do-Si-Dos,
  • Tagalongs,
  • Dulce de Leche,
  • Thank You Berry Munch and
  • Lemon Chalet Cremes.

Troop 3480 will receive a portion of every box of cookies sold. Girl will use cookie proceeds to achieve their goals. The girls have gotten their cookie training and are ready to get started in the largest girl-lead business across the world.

Sis. Zakiya will be Troop 3480’s Cookie Manager For the 2012-2013 cookie season. Cookie sales is serious business, and can only be successful with the help and dedication of parents. There will be a mandatory parent meeting Saturday, December 22, 2012 during the Troop Blitz. Girls will only be allowed to sell cookies after their parent has attended a cookie information session.

Troop 3480 to Explore 1001 Inventions Exhibition on November 17

PGMA Girl Scout Troop 3480 is taking a fun field trip to the 1001 Inventions Exhibition at the National Geographic Museum on Saturday, 17 November 2012. The girls will learn more about the men and women of different faith and cultures during the Golden Age of Islam that stretched from Spain to China from the 7th to the 17th centuries. These discoveries in the fields of art, science, medicine, commerce, architecture and engineering have left their mark on our world today. For example, Fatima al-Fihri founded the world’s first university, Al Qarawayin, which still stands today in Fez, Morocco, and continues to be one of the leading spiritual and educational centers of the Muslim world.

When: Saturday, 17 November 2012, 10AM – 12 Noon

Girls can also meet the troop at the National Geographic Museum at 9:45AM

All participating girls must be registered, current in dues, turn in a completed permission form, and wearing their Girl Scout pin and/or vest. Download the Permission Form, Girls Health Form and Adult Health Form. Turn in the forms via email to Troop Co-Manager Kesha or at the office at PGMA.

NOTE: Troop 3480 will not have its regularly scheduled meeting on Friday, 16 November because of the Troop-wide field trip on 17 November. The next troop meeting will be on Friday, 30 November 2012, 6 – 7:30PM.
