Reminder: Troop Meeting Tomorrow, Friday, Nov 9

As salaamu alaikum,

The next regularly scheduled troop meeting will be tomorrow, Friday, Nov 9, 2018, 6 – 8PM, inshaAllah. Please be timely. Arrivals after 6:15PM are disruptive to troop meetings and strongly discouraged.

Take a moment to note the troop meeting dates for the rest of 2018:

  • Nov 30*
  • Dec 7
  • Dec 21

*This troop meeting date is off the regular bi-weekly schedule due to the Thanksgiving school holiday.

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will be working on the new STEM Mechanical Engineering Design Challenge badges with one of our parents who is an engineer. Engineers use their imaginations to solve problems. Girls will be working like an engineer, building a Leap Bot and Fling Flyer,learning about forces that affect flight and energy affecting springs. We will begin on time.

JUNIORS

  • Juniors will take a quick break from working on their Musician badge, and begin their Simple Meals badge. This badge is about making amazing meals and learn to create a whole meal of their own. The girls will:
    1. Step up their skills with a pro
    2. Whip up a great breakfast
    3. Fix a healthy lunch or dinner
    4. Create a delicious dessert
    5. Make their own meal

    When the Juniors have earned this badge, they will know how to serve up a meal for their family and friends.

  • Juniors will complete all three parts of their Agent of Change journey at the Chesapeake Children’s Museum, and leave with an action plan for a Take Action Project in our community. The journey takes place on Sunday, December 16, 9AM – 5PM inshaAllah. Turn in permission form and $20 payment by December 7.
  • Parents: Please turn in health forms and troop dues.

CADETTES

  • Cadettes will be completing their Public Speaking badge and moving to the next badge, Finding Common Ground, which builds on some of the steps of the Public Speaking badge.
  • Cadettes will be working on the Woodworker badge at the first meeting of the new year. Tonya Williams from Bridging Leaders will come to our meeting with all of the equipment and materials needed to complete the badge. Please bring $15 cash or check by December 7, in order to participate.

PARENTS

  • Parents should see the Snack Mom during the troop meeting to sign up to bring snacks for upcoming troop meetings inshaAllah.
  • Important: Please turn in health forms and troop dues for your Girl Scout.

Reminder: Bridging Ceremony & Troop Meeting Today, Oct 26

The next regularly scheduled troop meeting is today Friday, October 26, 6 – 7:30PM, inshaAllah. Please be timely. Arrivals after 6:15PM are disruptive to troop meetings and strongly discouraged.

BRIDGING CEREMONY
In today’s troop meeting we’ll have a troop-wide bridging ceremony.

Bridging Girl Scouts: get prepared to share last year’s amazing, fun and challenging experiences as well as what you are looking forward to by writing two letters: one letter to a younger girl and a second letter to an older girl. In the first letter you should write 2-3 things you enjoyed about being a girl scout in the previous year and in the second letter 2-3 things you are looking forward to in the year to come. Younger girls can write a short letter and draw a picture. All letters should be brought to the bridging program in a sealed envelope. Address the outside of the first envelope to the level you are leaving and the second envelope to the level into which you are bridging.

Girls bridging to Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes should wear their old vest and bring their new vest to change into at the bridging ceremony. Bridging Girl Scouts will receive the insignia pin for their new level, and bridging award inshaAllah. Girls who are unable to attend the bridging, should inform their troop leader and they will receive their pins and etc. at the following troop meeting inshaAllah.

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will be participating in the bridging ceremony and continuing work on their Fair Play badge.

JUNIORS

  • After the bridging ceremony Juniors will continue working on their Musician badge.

CADETTES

  • Cadettes will continue working on the the final steps for their Public Speaking badge after the bridging ceremony. We will have a guest speaker: Raheemah Abdulaleem, Esq.

PARENTS

  • Turn in health forms and pay your Girl Scout’s troop dues: $45 for Daisies, $60 for all other levels. Dues pay for badges and pins and help supplement some activities.
  • Parents should see the Snack Mom during the troop meeting to sign up to bring snacks for upcoming troop meetings inshaAllah.

The next regularly scheduled troop meeting will be tomorrow, Friday, Oct 12, 2018, 6 – 8PM, inshaAllah. Please be timely. Arrivals after 6:15PM are disruptive to troop meetings and strongly discouraged.

BROWNIES

  • The Brownies will be expressing themselves with multi-media artwork. They will do self portraits on canvas led by our own parent Girl Scout volunteer, Sis. Whittni.
  • The Glamping Day Camp is this Saturday at Camp Brighton Woods.
  • Please turn in all health forms and dues at this troop meeting if you have not already done so.

JUNIORS

  • Juniors will being working on their Musician badge. The girls will:
    1. Explore how music is made
    2. Travel around the world of music
    3. Check out the music in their lives
    4. Make their own music
    5. Perform their music

    When girls have earned this badge, they will know how music is made and how to perform music themselves.

  • Parents: Please turn in health forms and dues.

CADETTES

  • Cadettes will be continue work on the next steps for their Public Speaking badge. We will have a guest speaker: Fatia Kasumu, MBA candidate at University of Maryland.

SENIORS & AMBASSADORS

  • Please remember to turn in health forms. See me to sign all forms. Dues can be paid directly to Sis. Asma.
  • Please try to arrive on time as late arrivals are disruptive.
  • Reminder to those participating in fall product sales: you can earn up to 10 percent of sales which can go towards off-setting activity costs.
  • A special thank you to those amazing Girl Scouts who volunteered last Saturday at Day of dignity.
  • Parents: If you would like to be added to the parent hangout, please be sure to provide me with a working gmail address.
