Time to get Back to Troop!

The first meeting of the 2015-2016 scouting year will be Friday, October 9, 2013, 6 – 7:30PM, inshaAllah.

Parents: Join troop management for a parent meeting, 6:30 – 7:15PM. This parent meeting is for those parents whose girls are already registered with Troop 3480, as well as parents of girls new to the troop and interested in joining the troop.

InshaAllah parents will :

  • Meet troop management
  • Go over troop guidelines, including the do’s and don’t’s that will make your girl’s scouting year go smoothly
  • Sign up to volunteer
  • Learn about Girl Scout uniform requirements and where to buy it all
  • Listen to other parents share their girl’s experiences with the troop
  • Ask questions. Things can get hectic during meeting times. We have about 80 girls and 160 parents, other siblings in and around the building. Come with your questions ready.

Last Troop Meeting of 2014-2015 This Friday, June 5

Alhamdullilah, we’ve made it! This Friday, June 5, is the final troop meeting of 2014-2015.

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will be completing the Fair Play badge, meeting PGMA Soccer Coach & Girl Scout Ambassador, Sis. Neya, and making rainbow fruit parfaits

JUNIORS

  • Juniors will be completing the Take Action Project for their Get Moving Journey. Girls should bring in a written statement that includes what they learned on their Get Moving Journey and two ways to save energy.
  • Juniors should also bring in a homemade dessert in which they have made a healthier substitution. The girls will be having a dessert party while they complete their Take Action project.
  • Parents: If your Junior (who is not bridging) is interested in possibly meeting on a monthly basis during the summer, email Sis. Kori at GirlScoutTroopMama [at] gmail [dot] com.

CADETTES

  • Missed out on the First Aid badge? Only made one of the two meetings to earn it? Catch up and earn that badge at the next meeting. Any girl who would like to make up what they missed to earn their First Aid badge should:
    • Research what an emergency contact card is and its purpose. 
    • Find out what information is good to have on an emergency contact card and then create your own.
    • Bring your emergency contact card to the next meeting.

MULTIPLE LEVELS

  • Troop 3480’s final trip of the 2014 – 2015 scouting year will be to The Capital Wheel to learn about the science and engineering behind the Wheel, THIS SATURDAY, June 6.

PARENTS

  • This Friday will be the last day that Sis. Kesha will be available to assist with Early Bird registration. Please Download Girl and Adult Registration forms and bring exact change or a check: $15 per girl or volunteer. Parents who have an account on the GSCNC Registration site have until June 30 to complete Early Bird registration. Adults who want to assist with trips, meetings or chaperoning in the fall must be registered volunteers and should register by the end of June, as well.
  • Girl Scout Cookies remaining from the Cookie Season will be sold at the troop meeting. Cash only: $4/box.

Troop Meeting This Friday, May 22

The next regularly scheduled troop meeting will be this Friday, May 22, 6 – 7:30PM, inshaAllah. Please note that the final troop meeting of 2014-2015 will be June 5.

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will begin working on their Fair Play badge in which girls will learn to work together to have the most fun possible. They will play games while learning the importance of following rules and being part of a team. Attendance at the Troop Field Day on May 31 is very important, as the field day experience is one of the steps to earn the Fair Play badge.

JUNIORS

  • Juniors working on the final steps of the Simple Meals badge, planning the menu for a special occasion and discussing how to make healthier substitutes in desserts. Each girl should bring in the recipe of one of her favorite desserts.
  • Juniors will also decide on a Take Action Project for their Get Moving! Journey.
  • Bridging Juniors who attend the Cadette presentation this Friday will complete the Looking Forward portion of their Bridging to Cadettes award.

CADETTES

  • Parents and bridging Juniors (girls who are currently Juniors in the 5th grade) should join the Cadettes as they discuss their experiences at the Stabler Apothecary Museum and show their Public Service Announcement from their MEdia Journey.

SENIORS

  • After the Cadettes’ presentation, the Seniors will be completing their GIRLtopia Journey with a program for the Cadettes titled “Who Am I?” which will end at 8PM.

MULTIPLE LEVELS

  • This Friday is the last day to turn in permission forms and money for the Capital Wheel Program, June 6.
  • Our end of year program will be a Troop Field Day. Turn in permission forms for the Troop 3480 Field Day at Fairwood Park in Bowie, MD, May 31. Parent volunteers are needed to set up, supervise for safety, serve and clean up.
  • Thank you to the parents that attended the Sojourn to Savannah meeting on May 15. Those that missed it will have to wait until October to find out more information and make their deposits for the trip. Find out more about what programs are offered at the birthplace of the founder of Girl Scouts as well as other Girl Scout offerings in and around Savannah.

PARENTS

  • Please contact Sister Rolanda at this Friday’s troop meeting to sign up to bring snacks. Troop managers request that parents provide snacks for at least one troop meeting during the Girl Scout year. The final troop meeting of the 2014-2015 Girl Scout year will be June 5.
