endOfYearParty

Asalaamu Alaikum,

The Girl Scout year has come to an end for Troop 3480. Our last meeting will be Friday, June 20, 2014, 6 – 7:30PM at PGMA, inshaAllah.

GS_DAISIES_gradelevel
Daisies will end the year in costumes and will finish our last petal (for those 2nd year Daisies): Respect Authority. Daisies will also finish the year with crafts and cupcakes, sending our bridging Daisies off with a bang. Please see the last letter given out at last Friday’s meeting in regards to the Daisies Community Service/Take Action Project.

The Daisies need to finish their Take Action/ Community service project. The following items are needed for Daisies to complete their Take Action / Community Service project on June 20, 2014:

  • 4 Rubber tubs (not plastic)
  • 4 small cans of paint (blue, white, yellow, green)
  • 6 small paint brushes

We are still waiting for approval from the EC/Shura board to put our signs up for soccer field users to not litter. The tubs are where recyclable will go. Please email keshabdulm [at] gmail [dot] com with the item(s) you are bringing.

Brownies
Brownies will also be having a costume party as they finish up their journey and receive the award this Friday.

Juniors
Juniors are wearing costumes and participating in a field day. No costume? No problem. Juniors and their troop leaders have worked out a plan and know what to bring. If needed contact Sis. Yasmeen for information.

Cadettes
Cadettes will be having a costume party, too. Girls should come at 5PM to help set up. Girls should contact Rehana with questions.

Who is bringing what?
Ruwaida – paper plates and cups
Fatina – Little Ceaser Family Pack
Siham – candy and 2 real flower bouquets
Nusi – balloons and mini gift bags
Buthania – chips

Seniors GSAmbassadors
Seniors & Ambassadors should contact their leaders via email for information about their meeting.

Troop Meeting This Friday, 23 May

troopMeetingFriday

The next regularly scheduled troop meeting will be this Friday, May 23, 6 – 7:30PM, inshaAllah. There are just two more troop meetings — June 6 and 20 — until summer break.

Permission slips for the Brownie Recycling Center Tour on May 31 are due this Friday. Permission slips will not be accepted on the day of the trip.

Early Bird Registration for the 2014-2015 Girl Scout year has been extended until June 20. Every girl who re-registers during the early bird period will receive a newly designed patch for the 2014-2015 Girl Scout year. Girl Scouts currently registered with Troop 3480 should re-register by June 20, 2014, or risk losing their spot in the fall.

On Your Own: Have a B.L.A.S.T. (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training)

blastBLAST (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training) is a 4-hour class associated with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI). It is a highly interactive and energetic course with many necessary sitter skills and role play scenarios that covers CPR, choking, and first aid, but its focus is on sitter basics, injury prevention, safety, kid activities, and getting the job.

Unlike other boring and lecture-based babysitter courses, BLAST has 14 engaging activities, and is equipment and supply intensive. They bring items for every kid so there’s no downtime; participants are always moving from chairs to tables, to floor, to role play scenarios, and more with short breaks every 55-65 min for food, drink, bathroom, and stretch. Kids always comment on how fast the time went by and how much fun they had. The normal response from the kids is “I thought this was going to be a boring course, but it was great fun and I learned a lot.”

An average of 1500 kids are trained in BLAST each year, including large camp groups for the Girl Scouts teen division. Completing a BLAST course can help fulfill all or most requirements for some Girl Scout badges.

Girls and boys, ages 11-15, are welcome to attend. Participants should arrive at 12:45PM and bring a snack. Note: The class may or may not be divided into 2 meetings on two separate days.
