Reminder: Troop Meeting Tomorrow, Friday, Feb 2

The next regularly scheduled troop meeting will be tomorrow, Friday, Feb 2, 2018, 6 – 8PM, inshaAllah. Please be timely. Arrivals after 6:15PM are disruptive to troop meetings and strongly discouraged.

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will continue the Quest Journey.
  • Girl will listen to a presentation on the Gambia for World Thinking Day.
  • This Friday is the final day for Brownies to turn in their homework and home-made snack for the Snack badge.

JUNIORS

  • Several speakers from Bangladesh will join the Juniors at this Friday’s troop meeting to help the girls get prepared for the World Thinking Day Festival.
  • Turn in permission form and $3 payment for the World Thinking Day Festival on Feb 10 at Kenmoor Middle School, Hyattsville, MD. Girls should wear their uniform (unless wearing Bengladeshi clothing) and bring a winter-wear donation (hat/scarf/gloves/mittens) to help make an impact in our community.

SENIORS & AMBASSADORS

  • Upcoming Senior and Ambassador events:
    • February 2: World Thinking Day planning and viewing of the newly released movie Bilal: A New Breed of Hero. Showtime is at 9:30PM at the AMC Hoffman Center 22 (206 Swamp Fox Rd, Alexandria, VA 22314). All who would like to attend are welcome to come. We will end the regularly scheduled meeting at 7PM and carpool/caravan from PGMA to movie theatre.
    • February 9: Finish Science of Style badge with special guest, Deja Crawford of Deja Customs Poppin’. Girls will be able to make hats they can take with them. Cost is $15 per girl.
    • February 16: Education coach, Dr. Tariqah Nuriddin, will lead a College Pathways workshop. Dr. Nuriddin will address how students can get prepared now to successfully navigate college. Students and their parents are invited to attend to learn college process tips and ask questions.
    • February 17: Fencing at the NOVA Fencing Club, 10:45AM – 1PM.
    • March 9: Movie (TBA) and Treasure Box activity
    • March 10: Sisterhood/Justice Journeys-in-a-Day
  • Sis. Amina and Sis. Aaliyah are sharing duties for Cookie Mom this year. A big thank you to Sis. Amina for your help for the first half! Alhamdulillah! Sis. Aaliyah will take over the second half of the cookie season as designated Cookie Mom.

PGMA Girl Scouts next regularly scheduled troop meeting will be tomorrow, Friday, Jan 19, 2018, 6 – 8PM, inshaAllah. Please be timely. Arrivals after 6:15PM are disruptive to troop meetings and strongly discouraged.

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will continue their Quest Journey Key activities.
  • Girls will also present their Snack badge assignment and enjoy the homemade snacks their Brownie sisters have made to share.
  • Parents: Please let Brownie Cookie Mom, Sis. Nneka, know which cookie booth sale locations at which you would like to volunteer.

JUNIORS

  • Juniors will have an art show to complete the final part of their Drawing badge. Girls should bring their personal masterpiece. A frame will be provided.
  • Juniors will learn about Bangladesh for the Association World Thinking Day Festival on Feb 10, inshaAllah. Do you know someone from Bangladesh who would like to share what they know with our troop? Contact Sis. Kori or Sis. Hayat.

PGMA Girl Scouts will have a make-up troop meeting tomorrow, Friday, Jan 12, 2018, 6 – 8PM, inshaAllah. Please be timely. Arrivals after 6:15PM are disruptive to troop meetings and strongly discouraged.

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will begin the Quest Journey.
  • Snack Badge assignments will be collected and we will enjoy the homemade snacks Brownies have brought in to share.
  • The Brownie Cookie Mom will meet with parents in the small green musullah with information and forms for girls to participate in this year’s Girl Scout Cookie Program. Also, keep your eye on PGMAGirlScouts.org for an upcoming event: a Family Party on Saturday, January 13.  $5 per person; cash only.

JUNIORS

  • Juniors will complete the second part of their Drawing badge with teaching artist Sis. Najiyyah. The cost of this two-part workshop is $15/girl.
  • Junior Cookie Mom, Sis. Zakiya, will meet with parents of girls who are participating in this year’s Girl Scout Cookie Program.

SENIORS & AMBASSADORS

  • CPR and First Aid Training registration and payments are due this Friday. The training will be on Saturday, January 27, 2018, 8AM – 12 noon, at Largo Community Church. Cost: $15
  • Seniors & Ambassadors will go to The Textile Museum at The George Washington University on Saturday, January 27, 2018, 10AM, inshaAllah.
  • We will be discussing Gold Award proposals & deadlines, and cookie sales.

MULTIPLE LEVELS

  • Turn in permission forms and $5 payments for the Service Unit 22-6 SHARE Skate Night, THIS SUNDAY, January 14, at Skate Zone in Crofton, MD. All family and friends are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
    • Permission forms are only required for Girl Scouts.
    • Payments can also be made at the door. Please bring exact change. There is no ATM onsite.
    • Eight girls who show the most spirit by wearing the most blue will enjoy a private pizza party at the event.

PARENTS

  • The second deposit for the PGMA Girl Scouts Trip to Savannah is due this Friday.
    • 12 and under: $50
    • 13 and up: $150
