Cadette Corner: Finishing Up Science of Happiness & Eating for Beauty badges

Cadettes who are working on the following badges and attended the last troop meeting should email me so that I can have your badges ready on Friday inshaAllah.

Science of Happiness badge tips:cadette_science-of-happiness_large

  1. Choose 2 – 3 things from the list of things that make you happy (or happier) to enjoy.
  2. Be grateful in words and deeds. Throughout the day approach people and say “Thank You” for something current, continuous and/or from the past, and/or voluntarily do a task/chore or assist with something (whether it is your responsibility or not) seeking nothing in return. Start with parents and family.
  3. Being optimistic especially when not in the best mood. Try focusing on the positive, and when something negative occurs (regardless of who is at fault) reflect and evaluate how you may be able to make situation and/or mood better. If the experience is negative share with someone (in writing or verbally) how you could have made a better decision, or said or done something differently. If the interaction was positive, explore what made it positive? To Share on Friday:
keep track of the time you use after school for 4 days.

To Share on Friday:

  1. Keep track of how you use your time after school for 4 days.
  2. What things could you decrease or increase to crease more time for what makes you happy?
  3. Please bring your findings on a presentation board to discuss with group.

Eating for Beauty badge tips:cadette_eating-for-beauty_large
Mindful eating means connecting with and experiencing your food.

  1. Turn off the TV, put your cell phone aside, and remove any other distractions.
  2. Say complete dua before and after a meal, remaining more aware and in the moment, as opposed to only saying “Bismillah”.
  3. Smell, look at, touch, and appreciate the food.
  4. Chew 15-20 times before swallowing. The mouth is the beginning of the digestive system.

To share on Friday:

  1. Practice the tips above.
  2. Bring the dua you learned and its meaning.

Cadette Corner: Badge Update & Breathe Journey Take Action Project

Asalaamu Alaikum

The girls who put in work really did a great job. Kudos to those girls who bravely stepped outside of their comfort zone to work with others, meet their deadlines, and produce good work!

With that in mind, I need four Cadettes to bring in one thank you card each for this year’s guest speakers who help the girls to achieve their goals.

Girls who went to the Breathe Journey weekend last year will work on completing the Take Action project. There are girls who want to finish this Journey, so we are going to throw around ideas, keep it simple, but make it sustainable.

The following Cadettes are working on the Breathe Journey Take Action Project:

Amirah A. Amirah M. Yoursa A.
Safiyah A. Irkam A. Nabila A.
Kadijahtu B. Ruwaida S. Nasrin A.
Aneesah B. Yusra B. Kadijahtu B.

As a part of the Take Action Project, Cadettes will need to attend the Earth Day Celebration at the Diyanet Center of America to gather ideas and information. This event is free. Side note: Sis Kori, Junior troop leader and founder of Green Ramadan will be part of the Green Muslim panel discussion.

See you there!

Cadette Corner: My Faith, My Promise Event and Badge Update

Asalaamu Alaikum Ladies,

This Friday is the last day to present for the Meet A Muslimah Girl Scout Muslimah Interfaith Outreach event. If parts are not done then we might have to think about not participating. Cadettes have had since February to prepare and the event is in May. Here are the part distributions:

Welcome: Kalilah K. / Ruwaidah S. (They were the only girls who were present for the competition at the last troop meeting.)

Shahadah: Rayanah W. has one presentation. (This is group work. Other groups might have to help with this one.)

Salah: Yousra A. / Sanaa L.

Sawm: Ikram A. / Sumayah Y.

Zakat: Nasrin A. / Dahlia A.

Hajj: Siham N. / Zainab A. / Amirah M.

You are all to present for Sis Kori. Presentations must have leader approval. Friday we will also decide if this group will be participating in the program at all based on what is presented. We want to have a stellar performance so girls are going to have to give 110%.

Here is a list of badges Cadettes worked on this year:

  • Night Owl: Done in meeting
  • Babysitter: Girls had to take the Girl Scout babysitting class or other outside training. Bring in the receipt.
  • Public Speaker: done in meeting
  • New Cuisines: Girls chose to do this on their own or in small groups, but they also had to present.
  • Entrepreneur : Did not finish; might finish in May
  • Financial Literacy badge: Done at Chesapeake Children’s Museum
  • aMaze Journey: None of the Cadettes who completed the book work turned in a proposal for a Take Action project.

The Cadette troop will need lots of parent participation next year. We’ll need a Money Manager, Cookie Mom, fall product sales person, Cook-out Camp certified adult, as well as those trained in archery, canoeing and first aid. If these positions are not filled the Cadette troop will possibly be regulated to a couple of meetings at most.

Ma Salaama
