Troop Meeting This Friday, Mar 25

COOKIES

  • Full payment for initial cookie orders are due this Friday, March 25, and is required in order to pick up second cookie orders.
  • We need volunteers to help sort the cookies in order to have them ready for pickup insha’Allah. If you are available to help, please contact Sis. Hanifa immediately at troop3480cookies [at] yahoo [dot] com. We will be sorting cookies on Saturday, 3/26/16 from 2 – 5PM at Sis. Hanifa’s home insha’Allah.
  • Second cookie orders will be ready for pickup from Sis. Hanifa’s home only on dates and times specified below:
      Thursday, 3/24/16, 5 – 6:15PM
      Saturday, 3/26/16, 5:30 – 8PM
      Sunday, 3/27/16, 12 noon – 3PM
      Monday, 3/28/16, 5 – 6:15PM

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will complete the Senses badge and practice their nasheed to sing at the Meet a Girl Scout Muslimah Interfaith Outreach event at the Diyanet Center of America in which girls will earn their My Promise, My Faith pin.
  • Girls who haven’t done so should bring in a snack for the Snacks badge and those who need to complete their Quest Action Project song or scrapbook can present.
  • Turn in permission forms and payment for Clay Animation Workshop at KID Museum on April 9. Cost: $15
  • Turn in permission forms and payment for Bugs Badge & Discovery Hike at Watkins Nature Center on April 23. Cost: $6

JUNIORS

  • Juniors will be finishing up the prep-work for their Agent of Change Take Action Project.
  • Turn in permission forms and payment for Fun Fitness at Sky Zone on Saturday, April 2. Cost: $10. Juniors are celebrating their completion of the Practice with a Purpose badge. Tagalongs are welcome with an accompanying adult. Adults are encouraged to join the fun, too.

CADETTES

  • This week Cadetts will continue the Public Speaking badge for those girls that were present for Sis Raheemah’s presentation. Girls must email their topics by 5PM Friday, prior to the troop meeting.
  • Cadettes will also be viewing the 5 Pillar presentations for the Meet a Girl Scout Muslimah Interfaith Outreach.
  • Cadettes will also present the New Cuisines badge.

MULTIPLE LEVELS

PARENTS

  • Pay your Girl Scout’s troop dues: $45 for Daisies, $60 for all other levels. If needed, dues can be paid in installments. Dues pay for badges and pins, help supplement some activities/trips, and also help support the troop web site, and printing expenses. (Parents pay for fun patches.) In order to camp, dues must be paid in full. For financial assistance contact Sis. Kesha.
  • Take a look at the 2016 Girl Scout Summer Camp Brochure to find the camp that’s just right for your Girl Scout. Registration is open now. Camp programs should be chosen based on the grade your Girl Scout is currently in. Financial assistance is available.girlScoutCamp2016

BROWNIES

  • Brownies will be starting their Senses badge and will use their five senses to explore the world.
  • Girls who haven’t done so should bring in a snack for the Snacks badge and those who need to complete their Quest Action Project song or scrapbook can present.
  • Parents please turn in permission forms for the following events:

JUNIORS

  • LAST CALL: Juniors who have not already done so, should bring in their completed homework for the Practice With a Purpose badge: a personal fitness plan. Girls who have already turned in their fitness plan will share their experiences with the troop.

CADETTES

  • Public Speaking badge is due this month. Girls have one speech to deliver, written by themselves or someone else, an no longer than three minutes. All topics must be emailed to Sis Kesha.
  • As a group we will go over presentations for the Meet a Girl Scout Muslimah Interfaith Outreach event. Groups should be prepared. All girls who are in groups must submit their complete permission form to me.
  • The three 8th graders ready to start their Silver Award should be ready to complete the beginning forms today. We have missed the March 15 deadline to be in this year’s On My Honor but girls still have time to finish before they bridge. If you have nothing in writing you are not ready.

MULTIPLE LEVELS

  • Girls should bring their signs in for the Bling Your Booth Contest.
  • PGMA Girl Scouts are having a patch contest for the Meet a Girl Scout Muslimah Interfaith Outreach. Download the patch contest form and bring in your best designs at the March 25 troop meeting.
  • Coming Soon:
    • THIS WEEKEND Girl Con, Mar 12 (J, C, S, A)
    • March Magic, Mar 18 – 20 (C, S, A). Registration is closed. Girls were given supply lists. Ask questions about supplies before March 19. Parents need to arrange transportation. We can leave as a group from PGMA at 7:30AM Saturday.
    • Turn in permission forms for the Meet a Girl Scout Muslimah Interfaith Outreach, May 14.

COOKIES

Parents: At this Friday’s troop meeting please sign up your Girl Scout to sell Girl Scout cookies at a cookie booth or contact your Girl Scout’s troop leader.

BROWNIES

  • Snacks badge
    • This Friday, Viviana Lindo of Eco City Farms will present Farm to Table as part of the Snack Badge. Parents are encouraged to join us in the Brownie meeting room for the presentation at 6:15PM.
    • Please assist your Brownie in preparing a snack on her own to share with the Brownies. Please let us know when she will be bringing hers in.
  • As a part of earning the My Promise, My Faith pin, please assist your Brownie in learning Tala al Badru Alayna, which they will perform as a part of a presentation about Islam in May at the Diyanet Center of America. Watch the YouTube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFiYk_fl068.
  • Brownie Quest Take Action Project: Some girls will present scrapbooks and complete the song action.
  • Please sign up for a Brownie cookie booth on March 5.

  • Email Sis. Kori at GirlScoutTroopMama [at] gmail [dot] com to sign up for Junior Cookie Booths on either 3/12/2016, 12 – 3PM or 3/19/2016, 2 – 4PM. Locations have been emailed to parents.
  • Juniors will be working on their Agent of Change Journey Take Action Project at the Francis A. Gregory Neighborhood Library, Sunday, March 06, 2016, 1 – 4PM. It is essential for girls who completed the Agent of Change Journey in a Day at Chesapeake Children’s Museum to attend this meeting in order to earn their journey badge. Complete the permission form and turn it in to Sis. Kori. Note: All Juniors can work on the take action project, but only girls who completed the journey work will earn the badge.

MULTIPLE LEVELS

  • February Service Project: Troop 3480 is collecting funds to donate water to Muslims affected by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. Please consider donating $5 – $10 per family to help our sisters and brothers in need. In addition, let us re-new our intentions to honor water and the One who created it.
  • Girl Scout Service Unit 22-6 and Boy Scout Troop/Cub Scout Pack 257 are partnering with the Cheverly Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to conduct the 4th Annual “Scouts to the Rescue” Search and Rescue exercise on Sunday, March 13, 2016. Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes are welcome. RSVP by Saturday, March 5, to Michelle Hayling at 226girlscouts [ at ] gmail [ dot ] com. Teen volunteers are needed.
