Cadette Financial Literacy Workshop, Jan 9

cadette_budgeting_largecadette_comparison-shopping_large

Budgeting: There are many ways to spend your money. Should you buy that new book you’ve had your eye on or save up for a weekend of fun with friends? There’s a simple way to help decide: Make a budget — a plan for spending and saving money. This badge will help you learn to create a budget that’s right for you.

Comparison Shopping: From cardigans to cars, you can buy just about everything online these days. Even if you end up buying an item in an actual store, you can use the Internet to compare prices and find the best deal. Although online shopping is convenient, there are certain things to know so you can make sure that you’re paying a fair price and don’t fall victim to a fraud!

These financial literacy badges are an opportunity for girls who are serious about increasing cookie sales and completing the Silver Award to gain much needed skills. How will you finance your Silver Award? Do you want to create a much needed program in the community? How much will it cost? Do you charge attendees or offer for free? When doing a LIA (Leadership in Action award) with Brownies will you need supplies? What will you need?

Girls should bring pencil, paper, prayer rug, dinner (a microwave is available). This is a drop-off event; no tagalongs please.

Cadette Corner: Rules of Engagement & Badge Selection

Cadettes

Asalaamu Alaikum,

The Cadettes who attended the last troop meeting came up with their own rules of engagement for all Cadette activities, including troop meetings, group assignments, trips and out-of-council events:

  • Follow Directions
  • Respect Each Other
  • Always Try Your Best
  • Don’t Touch Other’s Belongings
  • No Talking Out of Turn
  • Never Say Never
  • No violent actions– physically, verbally, or online.
  • Trust Yourself and Others
  • Never say “I can’t,” instead say “I can do better”
  • Take Responsibility for your own actions
  • Be responsive to emails
  • Always share ideas
  • Never leave anyone behind
  • Always Participate
  • Play Fair

In preparation for this Friday’s troop meeting (4 Dec): Pick two badges you are interested in and work on a plan to achieve them. All badges have Discover, Connect, and Take Action components. Your plan can include speakers, outings, outside shows or museums. Your Girl Guide has information about badges or check out the online Girl Scout Badge Explorer. Contact Sis. Kesha with questions.
